Professionals involved in crowd control are likely to need various levels of respiratory+skin protection, and will in almost all cases also require voice communication equipment that can be used while wearing a respirator. Terrorist attacks are often intended to cause harm, injury, death, panic and disruption to as many people as possible. It goes without saying that such an attack is likely to happen in a city, and in a place where big crowds are gathered. Emergency professionals are required to direct crowds away from the danger and to places where they can receive help and treatment (such as decontamination stations). Although most crowd control work is likely to be done in the cold zone, there is still a risk of people bringing the hazard with them from the hot or warm zone, perhaps in the form of contaminated clothing. Crowd control personnel, such as police, will therefore need some form of personal protection, even if they work in the cold zone. Other personnel might find themselves in the warm zone, where more comprehensive skin and breathing protection may be required. Of course, an important part of crowd control is to give people directives, answer questions, tell them what to do, and so on. Voice communication is an essential component of all types of breathing protection for crowd control personnel, whether using simple negative-pressure respirators or positive pressure devices. All S.E.A. respirators can be fitted with in-mask microphones that can be connected to external loudspeakers worn on the clothing, or powerful megaphones.
